I’ve worked in pharma for over 13 years. I’ve seen a lot. And BBL? It’s one of the most misunderstood — and dangerous — cosmetic procedures out there.
I’m not a surgeon. I’m not here to tell you what to do. I just want to give you the facts.
So, What Is a BBL?
Brazilian Butt Lift. It’s a procedure where fat is taken from your belly or thighs and injected into your butt.
That’s the simple version. It’s one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries in the US right now.
In 2025, over 30,000 BBL procedures were done. A lot of people are doing it.
How Does It Work?
It’s a three-step process.
First, they take fat out from places you don’t want it. Belly, thighs, love handles. That’s liposuction.
Then they clean the fat. Remove impurities. Pure it.
Then they inject it into your buttocks. Shape it. Lift it.
Sounds easy. But it’s not.
Why Is It So Dangerous?
This part is serious.
BBL has the highest death rate of any cosmetic surgery.

How Much Does It Cost?
Average cost in 2026: $12,000 to $15,000.
But that’s just the surgery.
Add hospital fees, anesthesia, compression garments, follow-up visits. Total could be $18,000–$25,000.
Insurance doesn’t cover it. It’s cosmetic.
Is There a Safer Alternative?
Butt implants.
Silicone implants don’t have the same fat embolism risk. But they come with their own issues — leakage, shifting, capsular contracture.
